A bit over a week before Clara’s due date estimated to be 2/14/2022, my husband decided it was best to prepare her and move her to the nursery early as she already looked like she was getting close. She had almost 2 weeks to go, but we didn’t want to take any chances and wanted her quiet and to rest. As the days went on and as her belly descended further, I knew we were in for a bigger than usual litter. Clara is a very protective mom, and although she will accept being monitored she prefers to handle things on her own. I know not to mess with a mad momma! This is Clara’s second litter and she has textbook deliveries.
But Clara…..REALLY? 15 Puppies? Yikes!
Sadly, we did lose one of our boys. He was not the smallest by any means, but he was unusually fussy. Then mom began to all out reject him. She knew something wasn’t right. Nonetheless, we decided to pull him (knowing he had had the first important 24 hours of colostrum). We kept him warm and he took to tube feeding and going potty under our care just fine, but he was slowly slipping from us. He passed quietly and peacefully. Knowing the discomfort he seemed to be early on with his cries, I’m only grateful he seemed to pass without pain.
We still have 14 beautiful puppies. I have posted their photos below and will update as time allows. Since it was such a large litter, the puppies were born a bit smaller and we are monitoring their weight gain daily to be sure everyone is getting their turn at the Milk Bar.

NOTE!!! Puppies are 8 Weeks old and ready for their new homes beginning April 6, 2022.
